How Creativity Can Help You Find Yourself And Your Happiness

Updated: Apr 2, 2024

Chances are, you’ve been looking at creativity the wrong way.

But if you looked at it in the same way Ancient wise men (and women) did, you could unlock hidden aspects of yourself to make your life a hell of a lot easier and more enjoyable.

I’m excited to share this wisdom with you but first, let me take you back to an experience I had in elementary school.

It was during this time I was in the school band.

And when it came time to go to high school, I had to choose whether or not to continue doing it.

But like most kids at that age, I wanted to be one of the cool kids and band was not considered cool.

I ended up letting the spell of societal norms get the best of me and decided I was done with band.

Sports was now gonna be my thing.

When I let go of music, I didn’t realize I had severed a vital connection to myself—a source of energy and fulfillment that I couldn’t tap into from being a popular star quarterback.

It wasn't until much later that I realized the impact this decision had on my well-being. And when I had this realization, a universal truth was revealed: when we neglect our passions and true selves, it often causes us to pay a heavy price - our mental and physical wellbeing suffers.

Now that I have this awareness, I'm able to see that a majority of people don’t realize how neglecting their passions and true selves has a significant impact on their overall well being.

I wrote this memo to explore this all too common dynamic. I also want to provide you with a roadmap back to the place you’ve been longing to be - connected to the real YOU.

SIGNS YOU’VE LOST YOURSELF

How can you tell if you've lost touch with yourself?

It's an important question and because I'm doing the work to reconnect with who I really am, I've noticed many others have lost their way.

Here are some of the strongest signs that you're out of sync with your true nature:

  1. Stress - It's one of the simplest and clearest indicators that you're out of alignment. Stress is a signal from your Soul and Universal Intelligence, telling you there's a gap between who you are and who you've become. The more stress you experience, the farther you are from your true self.

  2. Lack of fulfillment - When your actions don't align with your Soul, life becomes less fulfilling. To truly enjoy life, it comes from engaging in activities that awaken your true self.

  3. Persistent negative emotions - Anger, fear, anxiety, confusion, guilt and other negative feelings often arise from mechanisms (programs that produce thoughts, stories, narratives in your mind) embedded in your consciousness. These mechanisms act like disembodied entities, hijacking your thoughts and emotions, leading you away from your true self.

  4. Declining health and energy - Poor health and low energy levels can be traced back to your disconnection from your true self. When your cells are deprived of the energy and information they require, your health deteriorates, and vitality decreases.

Cultivating life force energy becomes more accessible when you're aligned with your authentic self, which enables you to be that much closer to the life you prefer to live.

CREATIVITY AND ALIGNMENT

So let’s talk about what its like when you’re expressing your true self.

The first thing you'll notice is a difference in your energy.

You’ll notice you have more of it.

Which means you don’t have to rely so much on artificial and external sources of energy such as coffee, energy drinks, drugs, alcohol, social media, etc., to get you going in life.

Instead of pulling energy from these external sources, you'll have a greater capacity to source energy from within.

So now you’re probably asking, how do I access energy from within?

This is where creativity comes into play.

The Real Power Of Creativity

I'm thankful for the pandemic because it was this experience that helped me realize the relationship between creativity and how it is a great tool for moving into greater alignment with our true selves.

I rediscovered my passion for filmmaking during this time.

What I noticed is that when I made more films, the better I felt.

Naturally, this made me curious as to why I was experiencing this.

Then during a visit to the Rosecrucians museum in San Jose, CA, it kind of felt like Life dropped a nugget to help me understand why I was having such an experience while filmmaking.

While I was at the museum, I learned that the Ancient Egyptians placed a heavy emphasis on the afterlife. It motivated them to acquire knowledge that would enable them to prepare for it.

So how were they to acquire such information?

Well, they believed that artists were the conduits to the cosmic forces of nature aka Universal Intelligence, God, Universe, Spirit, etc.

This is why the Kings, Queens, and Pharaohs during this time commissioned artists to create art. Which is not how Western culture perceives art. Westerners like art mostly for the way it pleasures the senses.

It was at this moment I had an enlightening thought.

To me, the reason I felt so much better when I made films was because I was gaining more access to Universal Intelligence.

And as I cultivated this connection, it was guiding me to be in greater alignment with my true self.

After studying and observing various artists, athletes, and those who work closely with creativity, It’s become clear to me that there is a tie between creativity and how it enables us to access more of who we are.

But here’s the thing.

If you make the goal to produce more of the superficial or practical aspects of life, like money, it diminishes the power of our creativity.

This happens because the intention isn’t in alignment with the economy of life - which means it’s not intended for the expansion and growth of all beings.

But if you hold an intention for those reasons, Universal Intelligence makes sure to it that your needs are met and you receive the resources to live your true self to the fullest.

SIGNS THAT YOU ARE IN ALIGNMENT

So what can you expect when you align with this Intelligence?

I’m glad you asked.

  • More pleasure - Using creativity to align with your true self leads to increased fulfillment, even in mundane activities like watching a flower bloom or feeling the water while you shower.

  • Less conflict - When your internal mechanisms trigger emotions like jealousy, hate, anger, guilt, or shame, you are more likely to act out from these negative spaces, leading to conflict. When you're in greater alignment with your true self, it reduces the influence of these mechanisms and results in less conflict.

  • Better management of emotions - As you cultivate greater self-awareness, you'll have the a higher capacity to notice when your thoughts aren’t being generated from your true self. Emotions serve as signals; when you're aligned, you'll recognize negative emotions and they'll lose their handle on you.

  • Greater productivity - When you can better manage your emotions, you won’t be susceptible to the emotions that prevent you from taking action. The result is greater productivity.

  • Increase in health and well being - When you come into greater alignment with Universal Intelligence and your true self, you’ll have access to more life force energy and information. These are the basic building blocks you need as a human to increase health and welling.

THE PROCESS FOR USING CREATIVITY TO FIND YOURSELF & YOUR HAPPINESS.

Now that you have an understanding of how creativity can be a conduit to finding your true self, let’s discuss the practical steps you can take to make such an experience your reality.

One of the first and most crucial steps is to identify the factors that are causing you to be out of alignment.

Although It is important to reflect on the external factors, such as a job or relationship(s) which may be preventing you from being your true self - you have to be mindful of not falling into the trap most people fall into. The trap that makes people believe that changing external circumstances is what leads to happiness.

Although changing what’s on the outside could lead to a feeling of happiness, it’s usually fleeting.

Whereas sustainable happiness comes from changing the internal constitution you operate with.

With that said, here’s what to focus on when it comes to using creativity as a way to move into alignment with your true self.

A) Identify mechanisms: Mechanisms are programs embedded in your consciousness that generate limiting stories, narratives, and thoughts in your mind. In order to come into greater alignment with your true self, you must clear these mechanisms that prevent you from doing so.

To achieve this, simply pay attention to uncomfortable emotions you feel such as anger, frustration, sadness, guilt, shame, fear, and doubt.

These emotions are usually driven by mechanisms. You’ll know it's one when you feel drained or heavy after feeling a strong emotion.

B) Once you identify a mechanism, name it - Once you spot a mechanism, bring your awareness to it. The best way to do this is by naming the emotion you're feeling out loud as well as the story running through your head.

The key is to separate yourself from the mechanism.

Don't let it maintain its grip on you and grow stronger.

Starve it out by not ruminating on the thoughts, stories, or narratives the mechanisms push onto you.

Eventually, they'll lose their influence and grip on you.

C) Reframe the meaning of creativity - Most people have been taught that creativity is the ability to generate novel ideas, solutions, or concepts that are original. But if you intend to use creativity to move in greater alignment with your true self, then you’ll need to look at it differently.

Creativity can be seen as another access point to Universal Intelligence. This is how the Ancient Egyptians perceived it. It’s what enabled them to perform incredible feats such as building the pyramids.

Framing creativity in this way is a prerequisite to aligning with who you truly are.

D) Practice “Creativity” - Now that you’ve framed creativity as an access point to Universal Intelligence, let’s put it into action so you can be in greater alignment with your true self. Here's how:

  • Get grounded and relaxed. Find a quiet spot and take at least 6 deep breathes. Place your focus on the area of your heart as you breathe, as if each breath is flowing in and out of that point of your body. Keep breathing deeply, while scanning your body for any tension, and simply command any tension you find to release.

  • Use your imagination: Using your imagination, ask for your highest and best self to appear in your mind. Be open and picture it however feels right to you—whether it's a version of yourself, a turtle, a flower, or even a pair of shoes. You'll feel a sense of lightness or empowerment come over you when you've made that connection.

  • Ask for guidance: Now, talk with your higher self as you would with a close friend or family member. When you do this for the first few times, you may find yourself questioning if the information is actually coming from Universal Intelligence or coming from your own mind (ego). Don’t worry about where the information is coming from for now, just keep practicing. Eventually, you will start to notice the difference between information coming from your mind and information that is coming from divine guidance. Trust and belief is key.

  • Apply your creativity: With a connection in place and insights gained from Universal Intelligence, it's time to get creative. Whether it's music, painting, writing, or any other form of expression, use the wisdom you've received to pour into your creation. Let those thoughts and energies flow into whatever you're inspired to bring to life—be it a painting on canvas, making music, or doing some gardening.

E) Document Your Experiences - To truly harness the power of creativity and connect with your true self, you've got to dive deep into your creative experiences. To achieve this, take time to observe yourself in the act of creation. Here's a guide to help you assess yourself while you create:

  • What emotions do you experience while creating? Tune in to your feelings as you bring your ideas to life.

  • What thoughts surface during your creative process? Pay attention to the thoughts that bubble up in your mind as you work.

  • What keeps you from being fully present? Identify anything that pulls you away from the moment of creation.

  • What distractions hinder your creative flow? Take note of what disrupts your focus during your creative endeavors.

  • Which environments foster your creativity? Discover the settings where your creative juices flow most freely.

  • Do you thrive creatively when alone or in a group? Explore whether you prefer solitary creation or collaborative efforts.

  • How do you navigate creating amidst intense emotions? Reflect on how your emotional state impacts your creative output.

By taking the time to explore these aspects of your creative process across multiple scenarios, you'll uncover the keys to achieving coherence—which is that sweet spot of harmony and balance. It's in these moments of alignment that you'll tap into higher states of consciousness.

In these elevated states, you'll gain deeper insights into your true essence and uncover the pathways to bringing those aspects of yourself into conscious awareness, so that you can eventually embody them.

KEEP IN MIND

If you’ve been alive for a few decades and recognize that in some way you’ve lost yourself, then don’t expect to find yourself overnight.

Although it is probable you’ll immediately feel the impact of some of the techniques and practices I’ve shared above, don’t set yourself up for failure by setting unrealistic expectations.

At the same time, the more you believe in this process, the more you’ll get out of it and the faster you’ll begin to see the results you’re looking for.

Such a fruitful memo! Thank you for compiling it and sharing your wisdom with us. I found it helpful to rewrite some of these steps in my own words... I even added a few steps to help add clarity for what I understand the process to be. At the end of reading, I was able to tune into what I most strongly feel my purpose is in this moment. Thanks again. and I look forward to what's next! - Renee
